The Daytona Beach area celebrated May 9-17 National Tourism Week with a successful scholarship luncheon and other awareness-raising activities. Its 'Simple Pleasures in Daytona Beach,' which concluded May 29, encouraged Volusia County residents to log on to the Daytona Beach Area Convention and Visitors Bureau's community site, www.daytonabeachcvb.org, and submit their favorite things to see and do in the area. Entries were received in writing and in photographs, and three local residents' submissions won recognition and prizes.

'We were really looking for some great stories and photos from our fellow residents,' explains Sharon Mock, president and CEO of the Daytona Beach Area Convention and Visitors Bureau. 'We know from extensive research what brings visitors to our area, but we're always interested to see what our fellow residents love about our area. It's a great reminder to all of us that what brought us here - often the beach, the climate, the sense of community - is still very, very appealing.'
The Simple Pleasures in Daytona Beach contest was judged by a panel of local professionals. Prizes were awarded in the following categories: Text - Greg Blose ('Feeding the Manatees at Manatee Island'); Photos - The McCormick Family ('Cubby and Crew'); and Overall Winner - Suzanne Grill ('My Dog Swims With Dolphins.')
